Wrist & Hand
Wrist Hand 01

Not many people realise that there are 27 bones from your wrist to your fingertips. With additional stabilising ligaments, intrinsic muscles and criss-crossing tendons running from your forearm muscles, the wrist and hand is the most complex and functional mechanical structure in the body. Consequently, plenty of things can go wrong with the area.

Physiotherapy at Head2Toe

Your Head2Toe physiotherapist will be able to perform tests and quickly diagnose your problem and provide treatment to resolve your symptoms and rehabilitate your wrist or hand issue back to full function in most cases.

Falls are the most common way of injuring wrists and hands, but sporting injuries such as balls hitting fingertips are also common, as are overuse injuries such as carpal tunnel syndrome or DeQuervain’s syndrome.

Common Wrist & Hand problems
  • Colle’s fracture (Distal Radius & Ulna fracture)
  • Bennet’s fracture (Base of thumb)
  • Scaphoid fracture (Wrist)
  • Tendon rupture
  • Tendon Ganglions
  • DeQuervain’s Syndrome
  • Dupuytren’s Contracture
  • Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
  • Thumb Hyperextension
  • Tenosynovitis (Trigger finger)
  • Intersection syndrome
  • Referred pain from the neck/nerves

These conditions need to be managed either with surgery or plaster casting, after which the wrist and hand will require physiotherapy to recover strength and function.
